Earl of Norfolk

Earl of Norfolk ist ein Titel, der innerhalb der Peerage of England mehrmals verliehen wurde. Die erste Verleihung war im Jahr 1070, die erste Dynastie, die den Titel über mehrere Generationen hielt, was die Familie Bigod; ihnen folgten die Mowbrays, die zusätzlich den Titel eines Duke of Norfolk erhielten.

Da die Bigods in weiblicher Linie von William Marshal, 1. Earl of Pembroke, abstammen, erhielten sie den erblichen Titel des Earl Marshal, der noch heute von den Dukes of Norfolk getragen wird.

Der derzeitige Titel wurde 1644 an Thomas Howard, 18. Earl of Arundel, verliehen, den Erben der Howard-Dukedom of Norfolk, die 1572 erloschen war. Howards Enkel, der 20. Earl of Arundel und 3. Earl of Norfolk, bekam die Dukedom 1660 als 5. Duke zurück.
