Bei der Ecthyma handelt es sich um eine Hauterkrankung. Ursächlich ist meist eine Superinfektion kleinerer Verletzungen durch Beta-hämolysierende Streptokokken (E. simplex s. superficiale streptogenes). Typisch für die Hautveränderung ist ein linsen- bis münzengroßes, scharfrandiges und relativ oberflächliches Geschwür, das wie ausgestanzt erscheint. Anamnestisch wichtig ist eine brennende, eitrige Entzündung (Pyodermie), vor allem im Bereich der Beine. Unbehandelt heilt die Ecthyma unter Hautnarbenbildung ab.

Therapiert wird mit Hilfe lokaler Antibiotikagabe.
