Agnes Dunbar

Lady Agnes Dunbar (* um 1340; † nach 1390) war eine schottische Adlige und Mätresse des Königs David II. von Schottland.

Biographie

Agnes war die einzige Tochter von Patrick Dunbar, 9. Earl of March (1285–1369), Anwärter auf den schottischen Thron, und seiner Frau Lady Agnes Randolph, 4. Countess of Moray (1312–1369), genannt Black Agnes. Ihre Mutter verteidigte im Jahre 1339 für mehrere Wochen die Burg Dunbar erfolgreich gegen die Engländer.

Lady Agnes war Hofdame bei Königin Johanna (1321–1362) und wurde 1369 die Mätresse des schottischen König David II. (1324–1371). Kurz vor seinem Tod hatte er die Absicht gehabt, da seine zweite Ehe mit Lady Margaret Drummond auch kinderlos blieb, Lady Agnes zu heiraten. Sie heiratete 1372 Sir James Douglas (1330–1420), 1. Lord of Dalkeith. Aus der Ehe gingen sieben Kinder hervor.
