Elby

Elaborate Bytes AG, kurz auch Elby genannt, ist ein Softwareunternehmen mit Sitz in Cham in der Schweiz. Elaborate Bytes entwickelt Kopier- und Brennprogramme, wie z.B. CloneDVD.

Elaborate Bytes wurde 1986 von Oliver Kastl in München gegründet.

Oliver Kastl

Bis zur Veröffentlichung von CloneCD im Jahr 1999 entwickelte das Unternehmen überwiegend Hardware und Software für den Commodore Amiga. Nach Änderungen im deutschen Urheberrecht verlegte das Unternehmen seinen Sitz im Jahr 2003 in die Schweiz, wo die Elaborate Bytes AG gegründet wurde.

Inzwischen hat das Unternehmen die Entwicklung und den Vertrieb von CloneCD eingestellt. Da das Programm den Kopierschutz von CDs umging, war es Elaborate Bytes laut neuer Rechtslage nicht mehr erlaubt, es in den EU-Staaten zu verkaufen. Die Weiterentwicklung und den Vertrieb hat die Firma SlySoft übernommen, die ihren Sitz auf der Karibikinsel Antigua hat.

  • IDE-fix - IDE Treiber für Amiga (wird nicht mehr vertrieben)
  • CloneCD - Software zum Kopieren von CDs für Microsoft Windows (wird nicht mehr von Elaborate Bytes vertrieben)
  • CloneDVD - Software zum Komprimieren und Kopieren von Film-DVDs für Microsoft Windows
  • Virtual CloneDrive - simuliert virtuelle Laufwerke, Freeware
  • MakeDisc - einfaches Brennprogramm für Daten, wird aber nach Aussage von Urs Wiget (Elaborate Bytes AG) voraussichtlich nicht realisiert werden
