European Women in Mathematics (EWM) ist eine internationale Gesellschaft von Frauen, die im Bereich der Mathematik tätig sind. Die Organisation wurde 1986 gegründet und hat ihr Büro in Helsinki, Finnland.
Ziele sind:
- Frauen anregen, Mathematik zu studieren,
- Frauen in ihren Karrieren unterstützen,
- einen Treffpunkt für gleichgesinnte Leute zur Verfügung stellen,
- wissenschaftliche Kommunikation fördern,
- mit Gruppen und Organisationen mit ähnlichen Zielen zusammenarbeiten und Informationen zu Frauen in der Mathematik erfassen und zur Verfügung stellen.
Geschichte
EWM wurde auf dem internationalen Kongreß der Mathematiker in Berkeley, August 1986 gegründet. Die Verbindung wurde in Finnland 1993 registriert.
Das beschlussfassende Organ von EWM ist die Generalversammlung. Die Versammlung wird jedes zweite Jahr während der Generalversammlung gehalten. Das Hauptverwaltungsorgan ist der ständige Ausschuss, gewählt von der Versammlung.
Der Ausschuss wird von einer Mannschaft internationaler Koordinatoren unterstützt. Norden, Zentrale, Osten, Süden, Westen sowie Russland haben jeweils einen internationalen Koordinator. Mitgliedstätigkeiten und Werbung innerhalb jedes Landes werden von den regionalen Koordinatoren organisiert.
