Five ist ein britischer Fernsehsender, der im Jahr 1997 unter dem Namen Channel 5 auf Sendung ging. Er befindet sich im Besitz der RTL Group und hält derzeit einen Marktanteil von 5,7 Prozent.

Empfang

Five sendet seit Beginn auf einer terrestrischen Senderkette, die in weiten Teilen des Vereinigten Königreiches zu empfangen ist. Diese Kette wurde erst in den 1990er Jahren aus letzten "Frequenzresten" zusammengefügt und hat daher nicht die gleiche Reichweite wie die vier älteren Frequenzketten, auf denen BBC One, BBC Two, ITV 1 und Channel 4 senden. Unter anderem in Teilen Südenglands und Schottlands ist die Abdeckung schlecht. Terrestrisch wird Five auch über DVB-T ausgestrahlt, zudem ist ein Empfang über Kabel und Astra 28,2° Ost möglich.

Cornerlogo

Channel 5 sendete von Beginn an mit einem sogenannten "Cornerlogo", also der in Deutschland üblichen Senderkennung in einer Ecke des Bildschirms. Dies war bis dahin in Großbritannien unüblich und die größten Konkurrenten führten auch in der Folgezeit nach Zuschauerprotesten keine permanent eingeblendeten Logos ein. 2002 verzichtete auch der fünfte TV-Kanal wieder auf ein Cornerlogo.
