G-Line

Eine G-Line ist ein netzwerkweiter Bann im Internet Relay Chat, der einer Hostmask (bestehend aus ident und IP-Adresse oder Hostname) für eine bestimmte Zeitspanne untersagt, sich im IRC-Netzwerk einzuloggen. Eine K-Line bewirkt dasselbe wie eine G-Line, allerdings nur auf dem Server, auf dem sie ausgeführt wird. Manche IRC-Daemons unterstützen auch CIDR-G-Lines.

Eine G-line wird im Normalfall gesetzt, wenn ein Nutzer wiederholt oder grob gegen die Netzwerkregeln verstößt. Im Normalfall geht einer G-line ein einfacher Kill (IRC) voraus. Die G-line ist somit einer der letzten Schritte gegen einen störenden Nutzer.

Die Syntax, um eine G-line zu setzen (IRC-Operator) oder Informationen über eine G-line abzufragen (einfacher Benutzer), unterscheidet sich von IRC-Daemon zu IRC-Daemon erheblich. Allen gemein ist aber, dass der Befehl zum Setzen einer G-line eine Hostmask, Zeitangabe (kann auch 0 sein, das führt dazu, dass die G-line nie abläuft) und Begründung besteht. Die Begründung wird dem Nutzer angezeigt, wenn er versucht, sich auf das Netzwerk zu verbinden oder eine bereits bestehende Verbindung durch das Setzen einer neuen G-line getrennt wird. Je nach IRC-Daemon kann der Grund der G-line auch allen Nutzern öffentlich angezeigt werden, wenn der entsprechende Nutzer vom Netzwerk getrennt wird.

Eine G-line kann auch Wildcards enthalten und somit nicht nur einzelne Nutzer, sondern ganze IP-Adressbereiche von der Benutzung eines Netzwerkes ausschließen. Derartige G-lines können vorübergehend und nur in Extremfällen, z. B. Botnetz-Angriffen, gesetzt werden.
