Die George Mason University (auch GMU oder Mason genannt) ist eine staatliche Universität in Vororten von Washington DC auf dem Gebiet des US-Bundesstaates Virginia mit Sitz in Fairfax. Zu der Hochschule gehören Standorte in Arlington, Fairfax County und Prince William County. Mit 30.714[1] Studenten ist sie vor der Virginia Commonwealth University die größte Hochschule in Virginia.

Geschichte

1957 als Campus der University of Virginia gegründet, erhielt die George Mason University 1972 ihre Eigenständigkeit. Die Hochschule ist nach George Mason benannt, dem Vater der Bill of Rights.

Sport

Die Sportteams der GMU sind die Patriots. Die Hochschule ist Mitglied der Colonial Athletic Association.
