German Coast (Louisiana)

Die German Coast (Côte des Allemands auf französisch) war eine am Mississippi River liegende Region westlich von New Orleans. Dieser Teil von Louisiana erhielt aufgrund der vielen deutschsprachigen Pioniere, die sich ab 1768 hier niederließen, diesen Namen. Mehrheitlich stammten die Siedler aus dem Rheinland und der Schweiz. Mit der Zeit vermischte sich die deutschsprachige Bevölkerung mit den dort ansässigen Cajuns und übernahm die französische Sprache. Heute wird der Begriff German Coast oder Côte des Allemands nur noch sehr selten verwendet.
