Golliwog (auch: Golliwogg) ist eine Kinderbuchfigur der britischen Illustratorin Florence Upton mit schwarz gefärbtem Gesicht und schwarzen abstehenden Haaren. In Uptons Buch "The Adventures of two Dutch Dolls and a Golliwogg", wird Golliwogg mit Grödner Drechselpuppen reichlich illustriert[1] .

Inspiriert von den Minstrel Shows in den USA veröffentlichte Upton 1895 erstmals Kinderbücher mit der Golliwog-Figur. Bis in die 50er Jahre hinein waren Golliwog-Puppen als Kinderspielzeug populär, bis ein Bewusstsein für die rassistische Bedeutung dieser Figur für ein Ende dieser Mode sorgte.

Claude Debussy benannte nach der Golliwog-Puppe ein Klavierstück aus dem Zyklus „Children’s Corner“: „Golliwogg’s Cakewalk“. Auch der Paarschreittanz Cakewalk, den übertriebene Verrenkungen der Tänzer kennzeichnen und der Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts in Europa sehr modern war, ist aus den Minstrel Shows entnommen.
