Guillaume Amonton

Guillaume Amontons (* 31. August 1663 in Paris; † 11. Oktober 1705 in Paris) war ein französischer Physiker.

Er entdeckte die bei Gasen gültige Proportionalität von Druck und Temperatur bei konstantem Volumen, das Gesetz von Amontons. Er führte konstruktive Verbesserungen bei Thermometern, Hygrometern und Barometern ein. Als erster vermutete er das Vorhandensein eines absoluten Nullpunktes.

Seine Genialität als Physiker brachte ihn in die Politik und er wurde Statthalter von Lille.
