HMNZS ist die Abkürzung für Her Majesty's New Zealand Ship und das Präfix der neuseeländischen Marineeinheiten. Sollte der Königin ein König folgen, ändert es sich zu His Majesty's New Zealand Ship.

HMNZS Hawewa (P3571)

Die Abkürzung leitet sich vom britischen Her Majesty's Ship (HMS) ab, da der Monarch Großbritanniens gleichzeitig Monarchs Neuseelands ist.

Schiffe, die aktuell diesen Namensbestandteil tragen, unterstehen der Royal New Zealand Navy, der neuseeländischen Marine. König Georg V. erließ im Jahre 1911 den Beschluss, dass die Schiffe dieses Präfix von da an tragen.

Viele andere Seestreitkräfte von Commonwealth - Staaten tragen Abwandlungen des "HMS", wie zum Beispiel die kanadischen HMCS (Her Majesty's Canadian Ship) oder die australischen HMAS (Her Majesty's Australian Ship).
