HMS Belleisle

Den Namen HMS Belleisle, nach der französischen Insel Belle-Île vor der Küste der Bretagne, trugen drei Schiffe der britischen Royal Navy:

  • Die erste HMS Belleisle (1795) war ursprünglich die französische Formidable, ein Linienschiff dritter Klasse mit 74 Kanonen, das 1795 nahe Belle-Île erobert wurde. Sie war an der Schlacht von Trafalgar beteiligt und wurde 1814 abgewrackt.
  • Die zweite HMS Belleisle (1819) war ebenfalls ein Linienschiff dritter Klasse mit 74 Kanonen, das 1819 vom Stapel lief und 1872 abgewrackt wurde.
  • Die dritte HMS Belleisle (1876) war ein gepanzertes Schlachtschiff, das ursprünglich als Peiki Shereef für die türkische Marine gebaut, aber 1876 für die Royal Navy erworben und 1903 als Zielschiff versenkt wurde.
  • weiterhin lief 1946 ein Zerstörer namens HMS Belleisle vom Stapel, der aber nie fertiggestellt wurde.
