Headliner

Ein Headliner ist jemand, der Schlagzeilen (englisch: headlines) macht. Nach Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary ist der Ausdruck seit 1896 bezeugt.[1]

Im deutschen Sprachgebrauch bezeichnet der Begriff heute zumeist den bekanntesten Künstler oder die bekannteste Musikgruppe unter denjenigen, die bei einem Konzert oder Musikfestival auftreten.[2] Der Ausdruck rührt daher, dass diese Künstler oder Gruppen auf Plakaten meist in der Überschrift genannt werden, weil sie die meisten Zuschauer anziehen.[3] Im Regelfall spielt der Headliner am Ende des Konzerts und hat die längste Spielzeit zur Verfügung.[4] Bands, die vor dem Headliner auftreten, nennt man Vorbands oder Vorgruppen (englisch: supporting act).
