Information Commissioner (IC) ist der Titel des Leiters der nationalen Datenschutzbehörde des Vereinigten Königreichs.

Der IC wird von der Königin ernannt, ist unabhängig von der Regierung und erstattet dem Parlament jährlich Bericht. Neben dem Amtssitz des Information Commissioner Office in Wilmslow (England) gibt es Regionalvertretungen in Edinburgh (Schottland), Cardiff (Wales) und Belfast (Nordirland).

Rechtsgrundlagen sind der Data Protection Act von 1998, der Freedom of Information Act von 2000 sowie die Environmental Information Regulations von 2004.

Aufgaben des IC sind der Schutz personenbezogener Daten und die Förderung des Zugangs zu Informationen der öffentlichen Verwaltung.

Amtierender IC ist seit dem 2. Dezember 2002 Richard Thomas. Seine Vorgängerin war Elizabeth France, die das Amt seit dem 30. Januar 2001 innehatte.

Der IC ist Mitglied der Artikel-29-Datenschutzgruppe sowie Mitglied der Internationalen Konferenz der Beauftragten für den Datenschutz und den Schutz der Privatsphäre.
