Jefferson-Market-Gebäude

Das Jefferson Market Courthouse wurde 1874-1877 von den Architekten Frederick Clark Withers und Calvert Vaux erbaut und liegt im New Yorker Stadtteil Greenwich Village. Das Gebäude wurde bei einer Architektenbefragung um 1880 unter die zehn schönsten Gebäude der USA gewählt.

Baustil

Der Baustil orientiert sich an europäischen Vorbildern und gehört zur Epoche des Historismus. Romanische und gotische Elemente wurden vermischt. An den Ecken erscheinen burgähnliche Türmchen.

Nutzung

Das Haus wurde bis 1945 als Gerichtsgebäude genutzt und beherbergt heute die Jefferson Market Library, eine Bibliothek.
