Jimmy McShane

Baltimora ist das Pseudonym des nordirischen Sängers Jimmy McShane (* 23. Mai 1957 in Londonderry; † 29. März 1995). Sein größter Hit war „Tarzan Boy“ 1985, ein typischer Italo-Disco-Song. In Deutschland und Großbritannien landete der Song auf Platz 3 der Charts und in Amerika auf Platz 13. Dieser Song wurde in der US-amerikanischen Fernsehwerbung für Listerine gespielt. Ein Remix des Songs schaffte es auf den Soundtrack des dritten Films der Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles.

In Wirklichkeit war McShane nur das Gesicht von Baltimora. Das Songwriting und der Gesang stammten von Maurizio Bassi.

Baltimora veröffentlichte zwei Alben:

  • Living In The Background (1985)
  • Key Key Karimba

McShane war homosexuell. Baltimora und „Tarzan Boy“ wurde deswegen oft als Symbol für die Homosexuellenbewegung benutzt.

McShane starb 1995 an den Folgen von AIDS.
