John Leveson-Gower, 1. Earl Gower PC (* 10. August 1694; † 25. Dezember 1754) war ein britischer Politiker der Tories, sowie der erste Tory, der im 18. Jahrhundert in die Regierung gelangte. Dort war er Lordsiegelbewahrer[1].
Er war ein Sohn von John Leveson-Gower und dessen Ehefrau Catherine Manners. Zum ersten Mal verheiratet war er mit Lady Evelyn Pierrepont. Unklar ist, ob die Hochzeit am 13. März 1711 oder 1712 stattfand.
Gemeinsam hatten sie sieben Kinder:
- Gertrude Leveson-Gower (1714/1715–1794). Sie heiratete John Russell, 4. Duke of Bedford.
- Mary Leveson-Gower (1717–1778). Sie heiratete Sir Richard Wrottesley, Baronet.
- Frances Leveson-Gower (1720–1788). Sie heiratete Lord John Philip Sackville, einem jüngeren Sohn von Lionel Sackville, 1. Duke of Dorset. Sie waren die Eltern von John Sackville, 3. Duke of Dorset.
- Granville Leveson-Gower, 1. Marquess of Stafford (1721–1803).
- Elizabeth Leveson-Gower (1723/1724–1784). Sie heiratete John Waldegrave, 3. Earl Waldegrave.
- Evelyn Leveson-Gower (1724/1725–1763). Sie heiratete John Fitzpatrick, 1. Earl of Upper Ossory.
- Richard Leveson-Gower (1726–1753). Er wurde Mitglied des House of Commons.
Evelyn starb am 26. Juni 1727 und Gower wurde Witwer. Am 31. Oktober 1733 heiratete er Penelope Stenhouse, einer Tochter von Sir John Stenhouse.
Seine zweite Frau starb am 19. August 1734. Am 16. Mai 1736 heiratete er Mary Tufton, einer Tochter von Thomas Tufton, 6. Earl of Thanet. Gemeinsam hatten Sie einen Sohn:
- John Leveson-Gower (1740–1792). Er heiratete Frances Boscawen, eine Tochter von Edward Boscawen. Er trat in die Royal Navy ein und wurde Admiral.
