Kempsey ist eine Stadt mit 8.137 Einwohnern im australischen Bundesstaat New South Wales. Sie liegt am Macleay River 450 km nordöstlich von Sydney an der Küste zwischen Coffs Harbour und Port Macquarie.

Der erste Siedler war Enoch Rudder, der in der Gegend Rinder züchtete. 1836 gab er Teile seines Landes ab, damit ein Dorf gegründet werden konnte. Kempsey wurde benannt nach den Valley of Kempsey in Worcestershire, England.[2]

Kempsey ist Zentrum des lokalen Verwaltungsgebiets Kempsey Shire. Die Verwaltung des Shires hat ihren Sitz im Stadtteil West Kempsey.
