Bandgeschichte

Der Name der Band geht auf Sandy Koufax zurück, einen Baseballspieler in den Sechziger Jahren.

Robert Suchan spielte vormals bei der 90er Emo-Band Joshua.

Die Band The Get Up Kids half Koufax ihr erstes Album herauszubringen. Nach dem Aus von The Get Up Kids stießen dessen Mitglieder Ryan und Rob Pope zur Band dazu.

2005 veröffentlichten Koufax ihr drittes Album „Hard Times Are In Fashion“ auf dem deutschen Label Motor Music. Die Band um den Sänger Robert Suchan spielt darauf lupenreine Popsongs, doch nicht ohne Ecken und Kanten.

Robert Suchan thematisiert auf diesem Album die ansteckende Apathie, die sich landesweit breit mache. Dieses Desinteresse erlebte Suchan am eigenen Leib, als er als Aushilfslehrer Jugendliche an amerikanischen Schulen unterrichtete. Mit seiner Platte möchte er keine politische Ansagen aufdrängen, doch er beschreibt den aktuellen Zeitgeist der politisch gespaltenen Lager und der Angst der Amerikaner, sich ehrlich politisch zu äußern. Der Halbtscheche nahm „Hard Times Are In Fashion“ größtenteils in Prag auf. Aus der Distanz betrachtet fiel ihm einmal mehr auf, wie merkwürdig es sei, in Amerika zu leben und wie viel näher ihm eigentlich Europa stünde.

Koufax stellen viele Fragen in ihren Liedern, doch Antworten erwarten sie nicht. Die soll sich jeder Hörer selbst erschließen.
