Die Rosensorte La France wurde 1867 von Jean-Baptiste Guillot (1803-1882) in Frankreich in einen Beet mit einem Gemisch aus Teerosensaatgut gefunden. Die Rose ist berühmt und wurde lange Zeit als die erste Teehybride bezeichnet. Sie bildet in der Geschichte der Rosenzüchtung den Wendepunkt zwischen alten Rosen und modernen Rosen.

'La France' ist reich blühend, wird 1,20 m hoch und ist heute noch als Sammlerrose beliebt. Ihre gefüllten, großen Blüten duften und stehen in kleinen Gruppen. Die Blütenstiele sind etwas schwach, dadurch ist öfter ein Nicken zu beobachten.
