Die Hartlaubmöwe (Larus hartlaubii) gehört zu den mittelgroßen Arten aus der Familie der Möwen.

Gestalt

Die Hartlaubmöwe ähnelt der brütenden Graukopfmöwe (Larus cirrocephalus), ist jedoch etwas kleiner. Ausgewachsene Tiere erreichen eine Körpergröße von 36-38 cm (Graukopfmöwe 40-42 cm). Zudem besitzt die Art einen dünneren und dunkleren Schnabel sowie dunkle statt gelbe Augen. Beine und Füße sind in einem dunklerem rot als bei der Graukopfmöwe. Der wesentliche Unterschied ist der Kopf, der bei der Graukopfmöwe grau, bei der Hartlaubsmöwe jedoch hellgrau und während der Brutzeit vollständig weiß ist.

Das Erscheinungsbild von männlichen und weiblichen Vögeln ist gleich.

Verbreitung

Die Hartlaubmöwe ist an der Atlantikküste Südafrikas und Namibias zu finden. Ihr Lebensraum umfasst die die Küsten- sowie Inlandsgewässer inklusive Stauseen, Häfen und Feuchtgebiete. Sie ist weit verbreitet und nicht gefährdet.
