Little Steel Strike

Der Little Steel Strike war ein im Jahr 1937 am 26. Mai[1] beginnender von dem Steel Workers Organizing Committee (SWOC) und dem Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO) ausgetragener Streik der Stahlarbeiter gegen die Stahlunternehmen des sogenannten Little Steel wie Republic Steel, Bethlehem Steel und The Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company. Einer der Anführer des Streiks war Gus Hall. Der Streik ist bis heute in trauriger Erinnerung, weil im Laufe des Streikes in Chicago am sogenannten Memorial Day massacre of 1937 am 30. Mai zehn Demonstranten von Polizisten erschossen wurden. Die Demonstration fand am Memorial Day statt und bestand aus einem Marsch mehrerer hundert SWOC-Sympathisanten zu dem Unternehmenssitz von Republic Steel. Der Erfolg des Streiks lag in der Anerkennung der Gewerkschaften durch die Unternehmen des Little Steel.
