M People

M People war eine britische Band aus Manchester, bestehend aus Mike Pickering, Heather Small (Ex-Hot House) und Paul Heard. Der Bandname M People entstand aus den Initialen des Gründers Mike Pickering. Mit ihren an House-Musik angelehnten Popsongs war sie in den 90er Jahren vor allem in Großbritannien erfolgreich.

Nachdem ihr erstes Album Northern Soul (1992) floppte, hatte sie mit Elegant Slumming (1993) und den daraus ausgekoppelten Singles ihren großen Durchbruch. Für Elegant Slumming erhielt M People 1994 den Mercury Music Prize. Nach diesem Erfolg produzierte M People-Mastermind Mike Pickering auch für andere Künstler, darunter Kylie Minogue. Ihre größten Hits in Deutschland waren One Night In Heaven, Moving On Up und Don't Look Any Further aus dem Album Elegant Slumming (1993).
