Lieutenant-Colonel Michael Jaffray Hynman Allenby, 3. Viscount Allenby (* 20. April 1931) ist ein britischer Adliger, Politiker und Militär. Er ist ein Nachkomme von Edmund Allenby, 1. Viscount Allenby.

Leben und Karriere

Allenby ging in Eton zur Schule und besuchte die Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Er wurde beim 11. Husarenregiment, später Royal Hussars, die zwischen 1953 und 1956 in Malaya stationiert waren, zum Lieutenant Colonel ernannt. Von 1957 bis 1958 diente er als Aide-de-camp beim Gouverneur von Zypern, von 1967 bis 1969 war er Brigade Major (Chef des Stabes) bei der 51. Brigade in Hong Kong und von 1974 bis 1977 war er Kommandant des Großverbandes des britischen Territorialheeres (Territorial Army) Royal Yeomanry.

Nachdem er den Titel Viscount Allenby, von Megiddo und Felixstowe, Co. Suffolk, erhalten hatte, sitzt er seit 1984 als Crossbencher im House of Lords. Lord Allenby war von 1997 bis 1999 stellvertretender Sprecher (Deputy Speaker) des Oberhauses. Im Rahmen des House of Lords Act 1999 gehörte er zu denjenigen Abgeordneten, die ihren Sitz behielten.

Er ist Förderer einer britisch-israelischen Gesellschaft und fördert Ausgrabungen in Megiddo, wo sein Großonkel eine Schlacht im Ersten Weltkrieg gewann.
