Der VW Brasilia war eine brasilianische Eigenentwicklung eines Kombiwagens des Herstellers Volkswagen von Brasilien. Das Fahrzeug wurde von 1973 bis März 1982 in rund einer Million Exemplaren[1] in Brasilien produziert, dazu ab März 1976 unter der Bezeichnung VW Igala auch in Nigeria montiert[2].

Grundkonstruktion und etliche Details der Brasilia-Modelle entstammten den europäischen Baureihen VW Typ 4 und VW Typ 3. Den Wagen kann man als Weiterentwicklung des zuvor in Deutschland produzierten Modell VW 1600 Variant für Lateinamerika betrachten. Allerdings war er kürzer als dieser und hatte den hochbauenden Käfermotor. (Brasilien hatte von 1968 bis 1977 einen eigenen VW 1600, der 1971, nach einem Facelift, das gleiche Gesicht wie der VW Brasilia trug, das eigentlich vom VW SP2 übernommen war und später auch den facegelifteten Typ 4 zierte.)

Von diesem Typ sind vor allem auf dem Land in Südamerika noch zahlreiche Exemplare anzutreffen. Aber auch in Spanien, auf den Kanarischen Inseln ist es möglich, derartige Fahrzeuge zu finden.
