Foodie

Foodie ist eine informelle Bezeichnung für eine bestimmte Gruppe von Feinschmeckern. Der Ausdruck erscheint erstmals in dem 1984 erschienenen Buch The Official Foodie Handbook von Paul Levy und Ann Barr.[1]

Foodies sind in einer Minimaldefinition Menschen, die ein starkes Interesse (eine Leidenschaft) daran haben, zu essen und über das Essen zu lernen ohne dabei ihren Lebensunterhalt mit einer gastronomienahen Tätigkeit zu bestreiten.[2]

Foodies sind Menschen, die gerne gut (im Sinne von „authentisch“) essen und trinken. Foodies schmecken Qualität, sind Feinschmecker und Kenner von Qualitäten.

Im Gegensatz zu Gourmets, die gewöhnlich als Fachleute der guten Küche gelten, sind Foodies interessierte Laien, die gutes Essen und Trinken in seiner Gesamtheit lieben, sich für die kulturellen Hintergründe interessieren. Dabei sind die neuesten Trends immer zu berücksichtigen. Dies schließt auch Informationen aus der Lebensmittelindustrie, aus der Ernährungswissenschaft und über bekannte Persönlichkeiten in diesen Bereichen ein.[3] Die Übergänge zwischen Gourmet und Foodie sind fließend.
