Hypostom bei den Zecken

Beim Zeckenstich kommt das Hypostom nach dem Schnitt mit den Beißklauen zum Einsatz. Es handelt sich bei der Zecke um einen zungenartigen, hohlen und mit feinen Widerhaken besetzten Teil des Mundapparates, welches in den Schnitt eingeführt wird.

Hypostom bei Trilobiten

Das Hypostom ist eine Platte auf der Unterseite des Cephalons bei Trilobiten. Es war vermutlich Teil des Mundapparates. Die Form und die Positionierung dieses Hypostoms sind wesentliche Merkmale bei der systematischen Einteilung der Trilobitenarten.

Konterminante Positionierung

Hypostom eines Isotelus

Bei der sogenannten konterminanten Positionierung ist das Hypostom an der Rostralplatte befestigt. Die Vorderseite der Glabella auf der Oberseite ist bündig zur Vorderseite des Hypostoms.

Natante Positionierung

Bei der sogenannten natanten Positionierung liegt das Hypostom innerhalb der Unterseite des Cephalons und hat deshalb keine Verbindung mehr zur Rostralplatte. Auch bei dieser Positionierung ist die Glabella-Vorderseite bündig zur Hypostom-Vorderseite.

Unabhängige Positionierung

Das Hypostom ist an den Dublüren befestigt ist aber unabhängig zur Glabella positioniert. Die Glabella ist meistens länger und überlappt somit das Hypostom.
