Arthur Gore, 9. Earl of Arran

Arthur Desmond Colquhoun Gore, 9. Earl of Arran (* 14. Juli 1938) ist ein britischer Adliger und Politiker der Conservative Party.

Karriere

Gore besuchte das Eton College und studierte dann am Balliol College an der University of Oxford. Danach diente er bei den Grenadier Guards, bevor er im Management bei verschiedenen Zeitungen arbeitete.

1983 erbte Gore beim Tode seines Vaters den Titel eines Earl of Arran. Er übernahm eine aktive Rolle in der konservativen Fraktion im House of Lords. Von 1989 bis 1994 war er Parlamentarischer Staatssekretär zunächst im Verteidigungs-, dann im Nordirlandministerium, schließlich im Umweltministerium.

Im Anschluss daran wechselte Gore in das Amt des Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard. Damit war er stellvertretender Fraktionsvorsitzender seiner Partei im House of Lords. Nach der Reform des Oberhauses wurde er als einer der 90 erblichen Peers, die weiterhin Sitz und Stimme haben, gewählt.

Familie

Gore ist verheiratet und hat zwei Töchter. Der Erbe seiner Titel wird daher ein entfernter Cousin, Paul Annesley Gore (* 1921), sein.
