Sir Astley Paston Cooper (* 23. August 1768 in Brooke/Norfolk; † 12. Februar 1841 in London) war ein englischer Wundarzt und Leibarzt mehrerer Könige des Vereinigten Königreichs.

Leben

Er besuchte das Guy's und St. Thomas Hospital zu London, sodann 1787 die Universität zu Edinburgh, wurde Prosektor und dann Hilfslehrer der Anatomie und Chirurgie am St. Thomas Hospital und später Wundarzt am Guy's Hospital. Im Jahr 1792 ging er nach Paris, wurde dann Leibwundarzt des Königs Georg IV., 1821 Baronet und 1837 Leibarzt der Königin Viktoria. Cooper zeichnete sich durch die Kühnheit seiner Operationen aus; er wagte zuerst die Operation der Pulsadergeschwulst der Karotis und unterband bei einer Pulsadergeschwulst des Unterleibes die Aorta abdominalis nicht weit vom Herzen.

Er wurde 1802 mit der Copley Medaille ausgezeichnet.
