Pahiatua ist eine ländliche Kleinstadt im Südosten der Nordinsel Neuseelands. Sie liegt 60 km nördlich von Masterton und 30 km östlich von Palmerston North, und wird gewöhnlich als Teil von Wairarapa angesehen, obwohl es verwaltungstechnisch zum Tararua-Distrikt gehört, zu dem Eketahuna, Pahiatua, Woodville und Dannevirke gehören.

Pahiatua entstand 1881, der erste Siedler war John Hall. Die Stadt hatte beim Zensus eine leicht rückgängige ständige Bevölkerung von 2.721 (1996), 2.610 (2001) und 2.562 (2006) [1]. 1944 wurden polnische Flüchtlinge in einem früheren Kriegsgefangenenlager 1 km außerhalb der Stadt angesiedelt.

2006 feierte Pahiatua sein 125-jähriges Bestehen.
