Phalaborwa ist eine Stadt in der Provinz Limpopo im Nordosten Südafrikas und Verwaltungssitz der Gemeinde Ba-Phalaborwa. Sie hat 109.626 Einwohner (Stand: 2010; Hochrechnung).[1] Die Stadt ist hauptsächlich für den Bergbau und den Tourismus bekannt. Bekannte Unternehmen dort sind die Phalaborwa Mining Company und Foskor Ltd, die beide über Bergwerke (hauptsächlich Kupfer) in der Region verfügen. Weiterhin befindet sich in Phalaborwa das größte von Menschen geschaffene Loch.

Der Name kommt vom Begriff pala bora der so viel wie ‚besser als der Süden‘ bedeutet. Die Sotho, die von Süden hierher zogen, benannten den Ort.

In Phalaborwa liegt auch ein Eingang zum Kruger-Nationalpark.

Phalaborwa hat mehrere Vororte (früher: Townships). Die größten sind Namakgale (rund 30.000 Einwohner) und Lulekani (rund 20.000 Einwohner).
