Port wird in der Regel aus der lateinischen Sprache (porta – die Tür) abgeleitet und bezeichnet:

  • in der Seemannssprache englisch für Backbord bzw. links
  • in der Medizin ein subkutan implantiertes kleines Gehäuse mit Membran und Gefäßanschluss zur Durchführung der Infusions-Chemotherapie, häufiger Blutabnahmen etc., siehe Portkatheter
  • im Bereich der Computertechnik:
  • in Graubünden (14. bis 19. Jahrhundert) eine Transportgenossenschaft, siehe Port (Warenverkehr)
  • eine Weinsorte benannt nach der portugiesischen Stadt Porto, siehe Portwein
