Pro natura

Pro Natura ist eine Schweizerische Naturschutzorganisation. Sie wurde 1909 als Schweizerischer Bund für Naturschutz gegründet und beschäftigte sich zunächst damit, die Pachtzinsen für den Schweizer Nationalpark aufzutreiben. Sie betreut heute über 600 Naturschutzgebiete in der ganzen Schweiz mit einer Gesamtfläche von über 50 Quadratkilometern.

Pro Natura hatte im Jahr 2004 etwa 100.000 Einzelmitglieder. Neben dem Schweizer Nationalpark betreibt Pro Natura Naturschutzzentren in Aletsch, Champ-Pittet und Sihlwald. Daneben macht Pro Natura als Nationalverband Lobbyarbeit in der nationalen und internationalen Umweltpolitik, führt alljährlich die Kampagne zum Tier des Jahres sowie andere gezielte Kampagnen zu einem Umweltthema und bietet auch Jugendarbeit an.

Pro Natura startete 2000 eine Kampagne, neue Nationalpärke in der Schweiz zu gründen. Mit der Kampagne "Befreit unsere Flüsse" setzt sie sich für mehr Lebensraum für Fliessgewässer ein.

Pro Natura ist Teil des weltweiten Netzwerkes Friends of the Earth (FoE). Im Jahr 2009 feiert Pro Natura sein 100-Jahr-Jubiläum. Zu diesem Anlass hat ihr die Schweizerische Post eine Sonderbriefmarke im Wert von 85 Rappen geschenkt.
