Rentokil Initial wurde 1924 von dem britischen Hochschullehrer Harold Maxwell-Lefroy am Imperial College in London gegründet. Maxwell-Lefroy suchte nach einem Weg, den Gescheckten Nagekäfer zu töten, der die Westminster Hall zu jener Zeit befallen hatte.[1] 1996 wurde der britische Konkurrent British Electric Traction übernommen.
