Verschiedene gängige Videoanzeigeauflösungen im optischen Größenvergleich.
Standard-definition television [ˌstændəd ˌdɛfɪˈnɪʃən ˈtɛlɪvɪʒən] oder SDTV ist ein Sammelbegriff für Fernseh- bzw. Videonormen, deren Auflösungen geringer sind als bei HDTV. Folgende Auflösungen sind typisch:
- NTSC (insbesondere die USA, Japan und Südkorea): 640 × 480 Pixel bei 59,94 Hertz Bildfrequenz (d. h. Bilder pro Sekunde)
- PAL, SECAM (Rest der Welt): 768 × 576 Pixel bei 50 Hertz Bildfrequenz
Kurzformen wie 480p oder 576i geben mit dem Buchstaben an, ob die Auflösung im Vollbildverfahren (englisch “progressive scanning”) oder im Zeilensprungverfahren (“interlaced scanning”) ausgegeben wird. Die drei genannten typischen Auflösungen werden im Zeilensprungverfahren übertragen.
Standards, mit welchen SDTV-Signale digital übertragen werden können, sind: DVB, ATSC und ISDB.
Insgesamt muss zur Beurteilung einer tatsächlichen Bildqualität neben der Bildauflösung auch ein Grad der Videokompression in eine Bewertung eingerechnet werden.
