TRIUMF

TRIUMF (eine Abkürzung für Tri University Meson Facility) ist ein Teilchenbeschleuniger auf dem Campus der University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, British Columbia (Kanada).

Sein Bau wurde von drei lokalen Universitäten finanziert - der Simon Fraser University, der University of Victoria und der UBC.

Die Anlage ist seit 1974 in Betrieb und gilt als größtes Zyklotron der Welt. Der Elektromagnet hat einen Durchmesser von rund 18 Metern und wiegt 4.000 Tonnen. Die Protonen werden auf eine Geschwindigkeit von ca. 224.000 km/s beschleunigt.
