Das Logo des Senders

TVBS, auch TVBS - Europe genannt, ist ein kantonesischer Unterhaltungssender, welcher ein Ableger des Fernsehsenders TVB ist. TVBS ist nur für Zuschauer außerhalb Chinas gedacht. Das hinzugefügte „S“ im Sendernamen steht für „Satellite“.

Gesendet wird aus den Studios in Teddington, Middlesex, Großbritannien. Dort werden auch lokale Sendungen produziert, welche nur in Europa ausgestrahlt werden. Serien und die meisten Reportagen bzw. Dokumentationen werden vom Sender TVB aus Hongkong übernommen.

Zu empfangen ist TVBS - Europe über den Satelliten Astra 1M. Da TVBS ein PayTV-Angebot ist und verschlüsselt ausgestrahlt wird, muss zum Empfang ein Abonnement abgeschlossen werden, welches von der Betreibergesellschaft „The Chinese - Channel Ltd.“ vertrieben wird. Seit dem 1. Februar 2008 sendet TVB über Eurobird 9 ein Programmbouquet mit den Programmen TVBS Europe, TVBN, TVB Entertainment News, TVB Classic und TVB Lifestyle. Der bisherige Sendeplatz auf Astra wird Ende Juni 2009 abgeschaltet.

Nicht verwechseln sollte man den kantonesischen Sender mit dem gleichnamigen, taiwanesischen TVBS (Taiwan), welcher nicht mit üblichen Mitteln in Deutschland empfangbar ist.
