Der buddhistische Tempel Taima-dera (jap. 当麻寺 bzw. 當麻寺) liegt in der japanischen Präfektur Nara in der Stadt Katsuragi.

Der Tempel bewahrt die Legende der Prinzessin Chujo-hime, die in einer Nacht ein Nirvana-Mandala webte und ins Nirvana gebracht wurde wo sie noch heute lebt. Der Tempel besitzt zwei dreistöckige Pagoden aus dem 8. Jahrhundert. Dies ist die einzige in Japan noch erhaltene Kombination.

Eine Kopie des Mandala, eine Statue von Prinzessin Chujo-hime und eine Statue von Amida-Nyorai können besichtigt werden.

Die Blütezeit der Pfingstrosen ist dafür besonders empfehlenswert.

  • Die Prozession der 25 Bodhisattvas spielt die Geschichte der Prinzessin Chujo-hime, die von 25 Bodhisattvas in Buddhas Nirvana geführt wurde. Als Bodhisattva verkleidete Personen laufen in einer Prozession von der Sabado Hall, zum Hondo welches den Weg von der Welt ins Nirvana darstellt.
