Der Begriff Translation (v. lat.: transferre (hin-)übertragen; PPP: translatum zu translatio) bezeichnet:

  • in der Mathematik eine Abbildung, die jeden Punkt auf einen um einen konstanten Vektor verschobenen Punkt abbildet, siehe Parallelverschiebung
  • in der Physik und Technik die geradlinige Bewegung eines Körpers, bei der alle seine Punkte zueinander parallele Bahnen durchlaufen, die Linearbewegung, siehe Translation (Physik)
  • in der Sprachtheorie die Übertragung eines Wortes einer bestimmten Wortklasse in die syntaktische Position einer anderen, siehe Übersetzung (Sprache)
  • in der sprachlichen Praxis die Übertragung in eine andere Sprache, als Oberbegriff von Dolmetschen und Übersetzung
  • in der Biologie:
  • in der Medizin die Überführung von Ergebnissen der Grundlagenforschung in die klinische Anwendung, siehe Translationale Medizin
  • in der katholischen Kirche die Überführung der Reliquien eines Heiligen an einen anderen Ort, siehe Translatio
  • in der Strömungslehre die Fortbewegung des Fluids (Flüssigkeit, Gas) ohne Rückstau, siehe Translation (Wasserwirtschaft)
  • in der Organisation die Übersetzung organisatorischer Entwicklungen in organisationsfremde Fachgebiete wie das Bauwesen, siehe Translationsdesign
