Baron Lyttelton

Baron Lyttelton, of Frankley in der Grafschaft Worcestershire, ist ein erblicher britischer Adelstitel, der von der Familie Lyttelton geführt wird. Er wurde zweimal in der Peerage of Great Britain geschaffen.

Verleihungen

Der Titel wurde erstmals im Jahre 1756 für den Politiker und Mäzen George Lyttelton, 5. Baronet geschaffen, der zuvor Schatzkanzler gewesen war. Er erlosch 1779 mit dem Tode von dessen Sohn.

Die zweite Verleihung erfolgte 1794 an William Lyttelton, 1. Baron Westcote, einen Onkel des letzten Barons. Dieser war zuvor Gouverneur von South Carolina und Jamaika gewesen.

Weitere Titel

Seit 1889 ist die Baronie ein nachgeordneter Titel des jeweiligen Viscount Cobham. Dieser Titel war einem anderen Zweig der Familie verliehen worden und durch Erbfolge an den fünften Baron gefallen.

William Lyttelton, 1. Baron Lyttelton, war bereits 1776 zum Baron Westcote, of Balamere im County Longford erhoben worden. Dieser Titel gehört zur Peerage of Ireland.

Bereits 1618 war der Abgeordnete Thomas Lyttelton zum Baronet erhoben worden. Diese Baronie, ebenfalls of Frankley in der Grafschaft Worcestershire, erlosch nicht mit der Baronie von 1756, sondern ging auf den ersten Baron der zweiten Verleihung über. Dieser Titel besteht daher bis heute fort.
