Baron Masham

Baron Masham ist ein erblicher britischer Adelstitel, welcher zweimal verliehen wurde. Die erste Verleihung erfolgte in der Peerage of Great Britain, die beiden späteren in der Peerage of the United Kingdom.

Verleihungen

Der Titel wurde erstmals 1712 an den Höfling Samuel Masham. Er wurde zum Baron Masham, of Otes, erhoben. Der Titel erlosch 1776 mit dem Tode des zweiten Barons.

Das zweite Mal wurde er 1891 für den Industriellen Samuel Cunliffe Lister geschaffen, der zum Baron Masham, of Swinton in the County of York erhoben wurde. Mit dem Tod des dritten Baron Masham erlosch diese Verleihung jedoch bereits 1924.

Der Titel wurde erneut 1955 vergeben, diesmal als Baron Masham, of Ellington im County of York, an den Politiker Philip Cunliffe-Lister, der zur selben Zeit auch zum Earl of Swinton ernannt wurde. Der jeweilige Earl of Swinton führt die Baronie als nachgeordneten Titel.

Weitere Titel

Die Frau des zweiten Earls, Susan Cunliffe-Lister wurde 1970 zu einem Life Peer in eigenem Recht ernannt. Sie erhielt den Titel Baroness Masham of Ilton.

Es existiert ein älterer, separater Titel Baron Scrope of Masham, der seit 1517 ruht und der Familie Scrope zuzuordnen ist.
