Earl of Swinton

Earl of Swinton ist ein erblicher britischer Adelstitel in der Peerage of the United Kingdom, benannt nach dem Schloss Swinton Park bei Masham, North Yorkshire, der von der Familie Cunliffe-Lister getragen wird..

Das Schloss, das 2000 von der Familie zurückgekauft wurde, ist auch Stammsitz der Familie. Zuvor war dies das nahegelegene Dykes Hill House.

Verleihung

Der Titel wurde 1955 an den konservativen britischen Politiker Philip Cunliffe-Lister verliehen. Dieser hatte von 1922 bis 1955 diverse Ministerämter in insgesamt elf Regierungen inne. Unter anderem war er Handels- und Kolonialminister.

Nachgeordnete Titel

Die nachgeordneten Titel des Earls sind Viscount Swinton, of Masham in der Grafschaft Yorkshire (verliehen 1935), und Baron Masham, of Ellington in der Grafschaft Yorkshire (verliehen 1955). Der letztgenannte Titel wird vom Titelerben als Höflichkeitstitel geführt.

Weiterer Titel der Familie

Die Ehefrau des zweiten Earls Susan Cunliffe-Lister erhielt 1970 eine Life Peerage. Ihr Titel lautete Baroness Masham of Ilton.
