War Refugee Board

Das War Refugee Board war eine unter Präsident Franklin D. Roosevelt im Januar 1944 eingerichtete interministerielle US-Regierungsdienststelle, die Opfern der NS-Diktatur, insbesondere jüdischen Flüchtlingen, weltweit helfen sollte. Finanz-, Innen- und Kriegsministerium waren gleichermaßen vertreten und beteiligt.

Seine Errichtung kann als Folge der Interalliierten Erklärung gegen die Vernichtung der Juden Europas vom Dezember 1942 und den Kenntnissen der Alliierten darüber gesehen werden.

Das War Refugee Board, Komitee für Kriegsflüchtlinge, hatte Filialen in der Türkei, Schweiz, Schweden, Portugal, Großbritannien, Italien und in Nordafrika. Der Staatsanteil von 1 Mio. Dollar war der geringste Teil der dabei eingesetzten Finanzmittel, wichtig war der politische Anteil an den Aktionen. Seine Executive Directors waren John W. Pehle und Brigadegeneral William O'Dwyer.
