Beat it

Beat It (deutsch: „hau ab“/„mach Dich vom Acker“) ist eine 1983 erschienene Hit-Single von Michael Jackson, der das Stück gemeinsam mit dem Hardrock Gitarristen Edward Van Halen geschrieben hat. „Beat It“ ist die dritte Auskopplung aus dem Bestseller-Album Thriller, nach den Singles „The Girl is Mine“ und „Billie Jean“.

Eddie Van Halen spielte das Riff, die Akkorde und auch das typische Solo mit dem vom Van Halen bekannten Tapping ein. Auf Tournee ging er jedoch nicht mit, sondern Michael Jackson suchte sich andere bekannte Gitarristen (z. B. Jennifer Batten, Greg Howe oder Slash) für die Live-Auftritte.

Mit „Beat It“ gewann Jackson zwei Grammy Awards („Single des Jahres“ und „Beste männliche Gesangsdarbietung – Rock“) und der Titel ist ein in vielen Spielfilmen vorkommender Soundtrack.

Eine Coverversion dieses Songs ist 2008 auf dem Live-Album ****: Live in Phoenix der Band Fall Out Boy erschienen.
