West Nicholson

West Nicholson ist ein 819 hoch gelegener Ort am Fluss Umzingwani mit etwa 1.700 Einwohnern 40 km östlich von Gwanda in der Provinz Südmatabeleland in Simbabwe. Der Ort liegt an Straße und der ausschließlich dem Gütertransport dienenden Eisenbahnlinie Bulawayo-West Nicholson, deren Endstation dort ist. Er ist ein regionales Zentrum dieses semiariden Gebietes und hat ein Flugfeld.

West Nicholson lebt vom Bergbau und einer großen Fleischfabrik, in der die Rinder des Umlandes geschlachtet und zu Corned Beef und Biltong (luftgetrocknete dünne Fleischscheiben, die deutlich härter sind als das in Europa bekannte Bündner Fleisch) verarbeitet werden. Es gibt einen Supermarkt und einen Metzger, eine große Grundschule und 12 km entfernt auch eine Sekundarschule.
