Wired for Management

Wired for Management (WfM) ist eine in den 1990ern von Intel entworfene Spezifikation, welche die Verwaltung aller Hard- und Software-Komponenten von Personal Computern in einem Netzwerk ermöglichen soll. WfM basiert hauptsächlich auf DMI und beinhaltet Preboot Execution Environment (PXE) und Wake On LAN (WOL).

Der Standard gilt 2011 als überholt, sein Nachfolger ist das Intelligent Platform Management Interface.

Damit ist es möglich, neu zusammengebaute Computer ohne die vorherige Installation zusätzlicher Software per Netzwerk zentral zu verwalten und die gewünschte Software (Betriebssystem) aufzusetzen. Ebenso können mit WfM ausgestattete Computer per Netzwerk mit Updates versorgt werden und die Systemeressourcen lassen sich entfernt abfragen.
