Das Wireless eXtended Range Electronic Projectile (XREP) ist ein Elektroschockprojektil, die von der US-amerikanischen Firma Taser International entwickelt wurde.
XREP-Geschosse können mit einem handelsüblichen Schrotgewehren im Kaliber 12 abgeschossen werden und haben eine Einsatzreichweite bis etwa 30 m.[1] Das Projektil stellt beim Auftreffen auf den menschlichen Körper mehrere elektrische Kontakte zur Haut her, über welche über einen Mikrocontroller gesteuerte Hochspannungsimpulse von bis zu 50.000 Volt übertragen werden. Bei einem Versuch der Zielperson das Geschoss mit der Hand zu entfernen wird ein Stromkreis von der Elektrode am Kopf des Geschosses über den Arm geschlossen was die Wirkung der Hochspannungsimpulse noch verstärkt. Die Markteinführung ist für 2008 geplant. Die Kosten sollen bei etwa 100 US-Dollar pro Schuss liegen. [2]
Mit Thor Shield, einem speziellen Polyester-Stoff der Firma G2 Consulting, gibt es seit kurzem auch Schutzkleidung, die vollständig vor nichttödlichen Elektroschockwaffen und Mikrowellenwaffen schützen soll. Der Verkauf der Kleidung ist auf das Militär und staatliche Sicherheitskräfte beschränkt. [3]
