Briggs & Stratton ist der weltweit größte Hersteller von luftgekühlten Benzinmotoren. Diese Motoren finden sich vornehmlich in Bau- und Gartengeräten wie mobilen Generatoren, Rasenmähern und sonstigen mit Benzin angetriebenen Geräten.

Die Gesellschaft wurde im Jahre 1908 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA durch die Ingenieure Stephen Foster Briggs und Harold M. Stratton gegründet. Heute beschäftigt der Konzern in den USA über 9.000 Mitarbeiter und Aktien des Unternehmens werden seit 1928 an der NYSE gehandelt. Die Motoren von Briggs & Stratton werden weltweit vertrieben.

1978 kaufte Briggs & Stratton den deutschen Kleindieselmotorenhersteller Farymann Diesel und wollte so den Einstieg bei Kleindieselmotoren schaffen. Die Pläne, neue wassergekühlte Mehrzylindermotoren zu entwickeln, scheiterten, ebenso die, die Kosten bei bestehenden 1-Zylindermotoren deutlich zu senken. Mitte der 1980er wurde deshalb Farymann Diesel wieder verkauft.
