Anzahl der Inseln etwa 15 Hauptinsel Great Abaco Gesamtfläche 1.681 km² Einwohner 13.000 Die Abaco-Inseln liegen im Norden der Bahamas. Dazu gehören die beiden Hauptinseln Great Abaco und Little Abaco sowie die kleineren Wood Cay, Green Turtle Cay, Great Guana Cay, Gorda Cay, Elbow Cay, Man-o-War Cay, Stranger’s Cay, Umbrella Cay, Walker’s Cay und Mores Island.
Während der Amerikanischen Revolution diente Abaco ebenso wie Cat Island als "sicherer Hafen" für die britischen Loyalisten auf der Flucht aus den neuen unabhängigen Vereinigten Staaten. Die erste Siedlung auf Abaco war Carleton Point. Sie befindet sich am nördlichen Ende von Treasure Cay. Carleton wurde im Jahr 1783 von 600 Flüchtlingen aus New York gegründet.
Die Inseln sind ein bekannter Ausgangspunkt für Segelaktivitäten auf den Bahamas und ein Tourismuszentrum.
Die Gesamtbevölkerung der Abaco-Inseln zählt rund 13.000 Personen, der Hauptort und wirtschaftliches Zentrum ist Marsh Harbour. Der rot-weiß gestreifte Leuchtturm bei Hope Town ist eine bekannte lokale Sehenswürdigkeit.
